Do Most Used Cars Come With A Warranty?

Shopping used is a financially smart way to get the performance and features you’re looking for in your next vehicle. But, one thing that differentiates a new car from a used car is warranty protection. While most used cars don’t come with a warranty, one you’re considering might. There’s also options from certified pre-owned vehicles or the ability to add on coverage.

Get informed for your used car purchase in Mount Pocono, Tobyhanna, Scranton, Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg with the following post by Ray Price Chevrolet.

Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Warranty Coverage

Outside of transferring the vehicle's original warranty, there is a used car type that will always have warranty coverage: Certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles.

Though warranty length and coverage will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, part of what certifies a CPO is a reinstated warranty. Chevrolet CPO cars, trucks, and SUVs are accompanied by a 6-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty1, a 12-month/12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty2, and benefits such as a 3-month trial of SiriusXM® for vehicles that come equipped with satellite radio when they're first sold.

Don't forget that these vehicles have been thoroughly checked out by a Chevrolet technician, using the brand's 172-point inspection and reconditioning process, so you can put full confidence in their performance.

What's In A Warranty (And How Long Does It Last?)

A warranty is a plan for coverage set out by the vehicle manufacturer that offers buyers protection for any defects with powertrain components, as well as auxiliary systems. This coverage lasts a specific number of miles used or months owned, and expires when either metric is reached.

A new vehicle warranty may also come with perks such as pre-paid maintenance for a set number of visits, or roadside assistance if you should break down around Stroudsburg, Arlington Heights, or Blakeslee.

If the used vehicle you're considering is still within the limit of the original new vehicle warranty, this coverage may be transferrable, meaning it will extend through to your ownership as the next owner of the vehicle. For example, Chevrolet's powertrain limited warranty covers the first five years or 60,000 miles. If you wanted to buy a three-year old Chevy Equinox with 28,000 miles on the odometer, you'd have two years, or 32,000 miles of coverage left.

Getting The Peace Of Mind You Need

Having warranty coverage in a used car provides added peace of mind in your purchase. Consider recent year, low-mileage vehicles in your search, or certified pre-owned vehicles, and you'll have some warranty coverage provided for your ownership.

If the vehicle you have your eye on is past its original warranty coverage provided by the manufacturer and isn't a CPO model, there is one final option for getting warranty coverage. If you're interested, ask your dealership whether adding on an extended protection plan is an option.
